lethargy

Every little girl wants that boy who will climb up ladders and scale walls just to present her with a flower, or to dry her tears when they might fall in the confines of her bedroom.

But then she grow older, more pragmatic if you will ( because somehow all little girls are groomed to break out of the shell and in a frenzy of makeup and shoes far too high to even tiptoe in, shoot out into the sky hoping to grow up and be deigned beautiful ). She's more interested in tangible symbols of glory. The car. The clothes. The nearly imperceptible he struts with his hips cocked forward and a cigarrette dangling lazily from his thin fingers. She wants the expensive dinners, the lavish parties, and the occasional romps in the sack. And she wakes up content. Because she knows that these men (boys?) are hard to come by and in a life like society dictates hierarchal order of power, she'll need someone with the capabilities to provide for her, and even be able tolerate the future pitter patter of little feet.

The ones that don't find themselves in aforementioned position are often torn. Their problem regresses into a far more basic rationale -- to fall for the bad boy, hence classified as the one who brings nothing to the table, offers no romantic or financial stability and merely generates a run around that is defined to be "exciting" (not when your heart wants to leap from the table and stab itself with a fork ). Through some investigation, the bad boy seems to unpeel himself, at least through her rose tinted glasses of the world (And yes, she still wears them. For else how could a young woman survive and hope to become accomplished without some way of viewing society not totally jaded and wartorn?) and the boy who emerges isn't a bad one, just a little misunderstood. Thn the task of reforming begins and she scarcely has a chance to explore other options.

The little girl begins to close her window at night, packs her stuffed animals in a trunk, but still falls asleep, dreaming of bright shining eyes and perfectly tousled hair.
